You can help make the wishes of children come true in your local community when you become a volunteer with Make-A-Wish® Central California. Our mission is only possible with the dedication of our volunteers.
To become a wish granter, you must attend a three-hour wish training class, complete the background check within 30 days of training and fill out the Volunteer Application. Wish Volunteers contact the wish family to set up wish visits, facilitate each visit, gather all necessary information for chapter leadership to approve the wish, manage the flow of information between the family and wish department staff, deliver the wish, follow-up on wish documentation and correspondence. Time Commitment: Maximum 10 hours per wish, number of wishes assigned is flexible.
Wish Airport Greeter
Meet and greet wish families at the airport before their wish trip departure to help with any last minute questions or simply assist families with getting checked into their flight. Best suited for an "early riser" as most families leave very early in the morning.
Office Volunteers assist Make-A-Wish staff with bulk mailings, thank you notes, data entry and general office tasks. Time Commitment: Flexible hours, Monday-Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Office Volunteer - Wish Department
Help the wish department complete wish follow-up tasks including: thank you notes, data entry and filing. Volunteers also prepare wish team packets, follow-up on medical authorizations, assist with wish team volunteer assignments and more. Other projects will be developed based on volunteer's experience and desire. Time Commitment: Approximately one day a week. Flexible hours and days between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Office Volunteer - Fundraising
Fundraising Volunteers assist with event follow-up including: thank you notes, phone calls and filing. Volunteers also prepare event packets, follow-up on logistical needs and assist with event volunteer assignments. Other projects can be developed based on volunteer's experience and time availability. Time Commitment: Approximately one day a week. Flexible hours and days between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Plan, organize, and implement successful fundraising
events by working on event committees, helping out on the event day,
and/or participating in the event.
Speak at local community, school, business, or civic
events increasing awareness and support for Make-A-Wish while educating
audiences about the Make-A-Wish mission.
Help facilitate wish experiences for non-English-speaking
families. Translators have the option of becoming fully-trained wish
